Settling your child at school
It is very important to us that our new children settle in happily, we therefore have a flexible policy on settling children in to ensure that this first experience of school is a good one. You will be invited to visit the school with your child before they start.
Parent/Carer involvement
In acknowledging that you have the greatest knowledge and understanding of your child, we aim to establish and maintain an effective partnership with you for the benefit of your child. We keep parents informed of activities and outings. We discuss any concerns that may arise and we invite parents to do the same.
Record Keeping / Parent Conferences
Each child’s activity and progress is observed, assessed & supported by the teachers using a pioneering new digital software. The ‘My Montessori Child’ system is password secure & fully encrypted. It helps us to deliver the best educational experience to young children. It also enables parents to access their own child’s learning journey, keep up to date with nursery activities and gain ideas to support learning at home.
Parent events
These are held periodically during coffee mornings or organised evening events, offering an insight into Montessori education, into what the children are doing at nursery and how our sessions are run. They are fun and informal. Recent event topics have included:
-
The Montessori Approach – what it is and why it works,
-
How we teach your child to read and write
-
A Sensorial experience to maths
Policies
Our comprehensive Policies and Procedures folder is available on request during your visit.
Ofsted Inspections
The school has had eight OFSTED inspections in both the previous premises at the Scout Hut in Weyhill and the current premises at High Lane Community Centre (1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2016 & 2021) and has achieved a high level of grading in all of these. Details of our most recent inspection can be found here.
Future Schooling
We maintain links with local schools in order to help us prepare children for the next step.
Parent group
The parents have formed a group, "Friends of Weyhill Montessori School", which meets regularly with the aims of fund-raising, social contact and support. They always welcome further help and support.
